Prerequisites

Prerequisites

Exercise caution. Depending on when the vehicle was driven, temperatures under hood could be high enough to cause burns.

Prerequisites

  • Shut off the engine and turn off the ignition.

  • Open the hood and the trunk.

  • Close the doors.

  • (Optional) Unplug Vehicle Power

  • WiFi-enabled device.

  • ! Plan to start the vehicle after completing the unlock—before beginning the flash—to confirm that all DME connectors are fully seated.

  • Unlocking another DME? Turn the M-Link off and back on before starting the next unlock.

Unplugging Vehicle Power

This is an optional, yet highly recommended step. One of the biggest components of M-Link is the ability to take a mirror image of the DME in its current state for safekeeping and later restoration. Since removing the DME with the battery being plugged in has the passability to set off some temporary error codes (DTCs), we recommend the user unplug his battery negative terminal before touching the DME connectors. Depending on the vehicle and configurations, there might be one or two batteries present. The main one is always in the trunk and the second one (on select models such as G20), will be present under the good, on the passenger side towards the windshield.

Alternatively, it is possible to make the vehicle go to full sleep mode and limit the chance of DTCs being set off even with the battery still plugged in. To do that, with the hood and trunk opened, lock your vehicle using the keyfob and walk away for 20 minutes. This will allow the vehicle to enter full sleep mode and power down electronics. When coming back to the vehicle, leave the keys away so as not to wake up the vehicle.

If using the alternative method, avoid touching door handles and ensure nothing is connected to the OBD port or the vehicle’s battery network (including using the vehicle battery to power other devices).

WiFi-Enabled Device

M-Link is designed to be platform-independent, allowing users to control and perform functions on M-Link using any WiFi-enabled device with a browser. This includes devices such as iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, PC, Chromebook, and more. It's important to ensure that battery-powered devices are adequately charged before use.
