Exercise caution. Depending on when the vehicle was driven, temperatures under hood could be high enough to cause burns.

Prerequisites

  • First thing first, shut off the engine and turn off the ignition.

  • Open the hood and the trunk.

  • Close the doors.

  • (Optional) Unplug Vehicle Power

  • WiFi-enabled device.

Unplugging Vehicle Power

This is an optional, yet highly recommended step. One of the biggest components of M-Link is the ability to take a mirror image of the DME in its current state for safekeeping and later restoration. Since removing the DME with the battery being plugged in has the passability to set off some temporary error codes (DTCs), we recommend the user unplug his battery negative terminal before touching the DME connectors. Depending on the vehicle and configurations, there might be 1 or two batteries present. The main one is always in the trunk and the second one (on select models such as G20), will be present under the good, on the passenger side towards the windshield.

Alternatively, it is possible to make the vehicle go to full sleep mode and limit the chance of DTCs being set off even with the battery still plugged in. To do that, with the hood and trunk opened, lock your vehicle using the keyfob and walk away for 20 minutes. This will allow the vehicle to enter full sleep mode and power down electronics. When coming back to the vehicle, leave the keys away so as not to wake up the vehicle.

If choosing the alternative method, one must make sure not to touch door handles, not having anyhting plugged into OBD port, as well as not plugging anything to the vehicle battery network (such as using vehicle battery as power source for other devices).

WiFi-Enabled Device

M-Link is developed specifically to be platform agnostic. What that means to the user is that any WiFi-enabled device with a browser can be used to control and perform functions on M-Link. As long as the device has browser functionality, it can be used to control the M-Link. iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, PC, Chromebook, etc are all supported.

If using a battery-powered device, please make sure it is sufficiently charged.
